Steve Miller Band Releases Bingo! http://theyarethemusicmakers.com/items/view/26287/steve-miller-band-releases-bingo

The Steve Miller Band is back with their first new studio album in 17 years, and it looks like they’ve hit the jackpot. Bingo! marks a true return to Miller’s early Chicago roots, with carefully chosen and crafted blues tracks infused with the same infectious party-pop vibe that blasted the Space Cowboy to the top of the charts in the ’70s. “What this really is about, it is about rolling up the rug and dancing,” Miller said in a video interview that’s available on his official website. “It’s a record to get out and dance and have a good time.” Watch Miller talk more about the new album in the video below.

Fender Center & Steve Miller Band Launch “Text-to-Donate” Campaign http://theyarethemusicmakers.com/items/view/24874/fender-center-amp-steve-miller-band-launch-text-to-donate-campaign

Legendary rock icon Steve Miller will launch an innovative “text-to-donate” campaign to raise money and awareness for a national music education initiative during his upcoming summer concert tour. The “text-to-donate” campaign will benefit Kids Rock Free music programs at the Fender Center in Corona, Calif. The Kids Rock Free program provides free and low-cost music lessons to students age 7-17. KRF® has serviced over 12,000 kids and there are currently 800 waitlisted for the program. Miller, who is a Trustee for the Fender Center KRF program, is challenging his fans and other artists to donate money to expand the Kids Rock Free school nationwide. “Steve Miller’s incredible support for Kids Rock Free and CAMPAIGN 800 is nothing short of amazing, and we are so very grateful for all he’s doing for the children,” said Debbie Shuck, Executive Director of the Fender Center. Miller, a long time pioneer of music education, will take the “text-to-donate” message on the road with him as he makes his way across the United States this summer in support of his new album BINGO! In addition to promoting the campaign, the Steve Miller Band will welcome Kids Rock Free student Dillon Brown, a freshman at Santiago High School in Corona, Calif., to join them onstage at a handful of shows to perform the anthemic “Fly Like An Eagle.” Brown, who is a KRF guitar student, started five years ago when he was just 10-years-old and showcases what is possible when kids have access to music education. “In my opinion the Fender Museum and Music school is the best designed and operated community music program in the Country,” said Miller. “It was built for a reasonable amount of money, it is self- sustaining and it focuses on teaching music by involving parents and children in a way that inspires and rewards good work. That is why I have performed three benefit concerts for the school and donated substantially to the program. It works. It is the best community project I’ve ever seen and is a model for the rest of the country to emulate.”

Similar support has been provided by John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts through their AIC program, which has assigned mentor Jens Moe, an arts management and marketing expert to assist. Supporters of Kids Rock Free “text-to-donate” can make a $10 donation directly from their mobile phone by texting ROCK to 50555. A one-time $10 donation will be added to mobile bills. The Who Rock the Super Bowl http://theyarethemusicmakers.com/items/view/20389/the-who-rock-the-super-bowl

The Who's Pete Townshend Photo credit: Michael P. Malarkey The Who took midfield on Sunday for a pyro/laser light-heavy halftime performance that kicked off with Peter Townshend attacking an acoustic guitar with gusto for “Pinball Wizard,” and then turning to his  Fender Strat® to rip off a few slow motion signature windmills during “Baba O’Riley.” Roger Daltrey whipped out his harmonica for an instrumental segment before segueing into “Who Are You.” Townshend viciously stabbed at his guitar during his solo and then, bathed in red lighting that matched his Strat, the English rocker finished the number with about nine consecutive fast and furious windmills. The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers played a few notes of “See Me, Feel Me” before wrapping up with “Won’t Get Fooled Again.” Spectacular fireworks erupted during the finale as the circular lights surrounding the stage flashed between “The Who” to a giant-sized silhouette of Townshend windmilling.

The halftime performance, by the way, was watched by more than 106.5 million people, making it the most watched program in TV history. The previous record dates back to the 1983 finale of “M-A-S-H.” Also spotted during pregame, Daughtry bassist Josh Paul rocking his Fender bass during the Super Bowl tailgate party.  The band’s “Life After You Air” aired on CBS during the pregame show. Below is a You Tube clip of their performance.

The Steve Miller Band also played at an NFL Super Bowl party on Saturday night at the Westin Diplomat in Hollywood, Fla. The video is available on our Fender Facebook page.
