I’m hopeful of getting some Coachella photos from our artist relations guys once they return to the office from the festival, but in the meantime … Spin has a concert review of Pavement’s Coachella appearance, along with some excellent photos of their Fender gear here. I’m also a fan of a shot they got of Band of Skulls singer/guitarist Russell Marsden and this shot of Muse’s Matthew Bellamy. Pitchfork also has daily recaps and photos, including a shot of Thom Yorke, who helped bring the festival to a close on Sunday. Pitchfork’s Day One blog covering acts such as: Jay-Z, Vampire Weekend, LCD Soundsystem, She & Him and Them Crooked Vultures Pitchfork’s Day Two blog covering acts such as: Dirty Projectors, the xx, Girls, Hot Chip, Beach House, MGMT, Flying Lotus, Devo, Major Lazer, Camera Obscura, Die Antwoord, Faith No More and the Raveonettes Pitchfork’s Day Three blog covering acts such as: (the already mentioned) Thom Yorke, Gorillaz, Pavement, Deerhunter, Spoon and Matt & Kim.

Band of Skulls Roll Through Arizona En Route to Coachella
Band of Skulls rolled through Scottsdale last night for a show at the Martini Ranch, and in this blogger’s humble opinion, they just keep getting better. This was the third time I’ve seen them live, but the first I’ve heard them play their New Moon track “Friends” in person, a number that earned major love from the packed house. Singer/guitarist Russell Marsden also has added a new Gretsch guitar to his rack. Marsden used it on “Cold Fame,” which added that unmistakable great Gretsch sound to the tune.
The U.K. trio is now en route to Coachella to play the Ghobi stage tomorrow around 4:30 p.m. But back to Martini Ranch … The entire evening wound up being a mostly-Fender affair with U.K. band 22-20’s and The Whigs of Athens, Ga., also relying on Fender guitars, basses and amps. The Whigs singer/guitarist Parker Gispert If you’ve never seen The Whigs live, I recommend you check them out on April 27 when they appear on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Band Of Skulls Bring It at SXSW
Personal thanks to hip hop/soul/Afro-Beat act NNEKA. After an extremely late night updating fender.com, the various social networking sites and this here blog, I appreciated their early afternoon performance on Friday at Filter’s Showdown at Cedar Street. Their groovin’ helped snap me out of my funk, just in time to catch one of my favorite bands, Band of Skulls, absolutely rock the joint. Seriously, if you haven’t seen this guys yet, do it now. Even though they were running on empty after returning from Dallas in the wee hours of the morning after a show there with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (who also played today’s Showdown), they brought it. Told that the line to get in an hour before the show went around the corner, Band of Skulls drummer Matt Hayward shot me a surprised look and asked, “Really?” “It’s surreal,” he said. “We still see ourselves as our little band from Southampton, England, so to come here and have a load of people turn up in another country, it’s… we’re very grateful.” Thankfully, they also managed to finish the show without blowing an amp. Singer/guitarist Russell Marsden has blown at least two since arriving in Austin. “You at Fender are going to regret working with Russell Marsden,” predicted Hayward. “He breaks all of your shit, all of the time.” Watch a clip from the show here..and see more photos here.

Band of Skulls Tune Opens ABC’s Show Castle
Band of Skulls’ song “Patterns” was featured on last night’s episode of Castle. The track opened ABC’s murder-mystery television show and the discovery of a vic’s body in the park. It was interesting timing since I had just published my article on the U.K. trio earlier in the afternoon. If you haven’t yet read it, check it out. This band is quickly gaining a following and could just be the next big thing. Read Band of Skulls: Fact or Fiction? Not much of a reader? Watch the video on them at Fender Vision.
